Matthew Stafford explains his Taylor Swift music video cameo

Perhaps the biggest moment of Matthew Stafford's 2026 offseason wasn't his decision to return to the NFL. Or even his new contract with the Los Angeles Rams. There is a case to be made, in the quarterback's daughters' eyes, at least, that the biggest moment of Stafford's summer was filming a scene in Taylor Swift's "Patient Zero" music video.

"That's one of the main reasons that I ended up going to do that," Stafford said, adding that his daughters were there when the filming occurred. "[Swift] wanted to offer an experience for our family and our kids to see that."

The cameo has become a family favorite. Stafford said his girls love the song, as they do all of Swift's songs. "I was actually driving them to soccer yesterday, and they were asking me to play it in the car so we had it on repeat," he said.

Stafford and his wife, Kelly, were both on set. He said the day was "really cool" and that Swift was impressive to watch. In his words, she was "borderline directing, producing, writing, all of it, editing live as we were doing it."

It was Stafford's first time in a music video. It may also be his last.

"I've never been a part of it before. I probably won't ever be again based on my acting chops," he said, laughing. "But it was a cool day."
