Michigan rises in US LBM Coaches Poll after upset of Oklahoma - Wolverines Wire

Michigan football had opened up the 2026 college football season ranked No. 16 in the US LBM Coaches Poll, a position that seemed just right for a team with a lot of unknowns under a new head coach in Kyle Whittingham. However, coming out of Week 1, despite being 1-0 (much to the chagrin of many), the Wolverines fell to No. 24 in the eyes of the coaches (and they fell completely out of the media poll), and this with No. 10 Oklahoma coming to town. It seemed as if the maize and blue were about to be in for a rude awakening for the season.

However, they play games for a reason, and Michigan has to be happy about that. It shocked the Sooners in Ann Arbor, 17-10, and assuredly rose higher in the eyes of many across the country.

But what did the coaches think about the performance?

In the latest US LBM Coaches Poll, Michigan rose to No. 19. Oklahoma fell to No. 21 after the loss, as well. Around the Big Ten, Iowa (which survived Iowa State) rose to 20th, Penn State is now No. 15, Indiana is No. 4, Oregon dropped to 18th after losing to Oklahoma State, and Ohio State dropped to sixth after losing at Texas.
