Mkhwebane acquitted of perjury over Absa/Bankorp report - EWN
Former Public Protector Busisiwe Mkhwebane has been acquitted of the perjury charges against her.
The charges arose from a 2019 Constitutional Court judgment over her Absa-Bankorp report about the mandate of the Reserve Bank.
Mkhwebane was found to have given differing versions about her meeting with then President Jacob Zuma during her investigation into the Reserve Bank.
In the Magistrates Court, the state made its case and Mkhwebane's lawyers brought a discharge application, which she was granted on Wednesday.
Meanwhile, the Busisiwe Mkhwebane Foundation has welcomed the court's decision, saying it marks a significant moment in a long and difficult legal chapter.
