To address the construction hurdles surrounding the stalled Olympian Suresh Babu Indoor Stadium project, which has already seen an expenditure of over ₹33 crore, Eravipuram MLA Vishnu Mohan led a joint inspection on Sunday (September 20, 2026). The MLA directly evaluated the existing technical roadblocks and discrepancies tied to the project, subsequently holding discussions with relevant officials regarding steps to resolve them.
With project activities currently at a standstill, a detailed discussion was held to review the present situation and determine how to move forward effectively. The MLA urged the authorities concerned to take necessary measures to ensure the remaining construction work is completed within a stipulated timeframe. Observing that the indoor stadium is a crucial project for Kollam’s sports infrastructure development, he said that the ongoing effort aims to complete the construction swiftly and open it for athletes and the general public.
In continuation of these efforts, Minister for Sports O. J. Janeesh will visit the district’s major stadiums located within the Eravipuram constituency on Monday (September 21, 2026) to assess ongoing issues. The ministerial visit will cover both the Olympian Suresh Babu Indoor Stadium and the Lal Bahadur Shastri Stadium.
Key agenda items during the visit will include formulating follow-up actions to clear the roadblocks at the stalled indoor stadium and complete it on schedule, addressing issues related to the construction works at the Lal Bahadur Shastri Stadium, and discussing next steps for initiating the proposed Kavadivayal Stadium project in Mayyanad panchayat.
Officials from Sports Kerala Foundation (SKF) and KITCO, the agencies entrusted with project implementation, along with KIIFB representatives and Kollam Corporation representatives will accompany the Minister during the inspection and subsequent discussions. Pointing to the immense significance of these projects for the district’s sports infrastructure, Mr. Mohan added that the Minister’s visit will play a vital role in overcoming the current construction obstacles and accelerating the progress of these projects.
