The main focus of rain will be southern India, where Kerala and Tamil Nadu are likely to receive isolated heavy showers, while parts of the northeast also remain wet.

According to the India Meteorological Department's (IMD) weather forecast issued on Saturday, October 3, thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds are also expected in several parts of the south and northeast. Kerala is expected to see fairly widespread rain, while Coastal Karnataka could receive rain at many places.

Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal may also see thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds of 40-50 kmph.

The rain is linked to weather systems over and around the southern peninsula, including a cyclonic circulation over the Comorin area and another over the southeast Arabian Sea near the Kerala coast.

Lakshadweep is also expected to receive rain, while Konkan and Goa are likely to remain hot and humid at isolated places.

The northeast will not be completely dry.

The southwest monsoon is now well into its withdrawal phase.

The IMD noted that it had withdrawn from the remaining parts of north India, the whole of Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh, and some parts of Bihar, Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh and Maharashtra.

Over the next two to three days, the monsoon is likely to withdraw from most of Marathwada and Vidarbha, more parts of Maharashtra and Chhattisgarh, and some parts of Telangana and north interior Karnataka.

Temperatures, meanwhile, remain on the warmer side in several parts of the north and west.

Minimum temperatures on Saturday were above normal at many locations, including parts of Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana, Delhi and Rajasthan.

The highest maximum temperature recorded on Friday was 39.7°C at Pilani in Rajasthan.- Ends
