More ADC members defect to APC in Sokoto - The Guardian Nigeria News

Amid the continuing political realignments ahead of the 2027 general elections, more members of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Sokoto State have defected to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

The defectors included the former chairman of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Sokoto North Local Council Area, Sanusi Kyame, and former ADC Director-General in Tambuwal Local Council Area, Umar Salah.

Kyame was received by the APC state chairman, Haruna Adiya, alongside the Special Adviser to the Governor on Political Matters, FarukuLabbo, and other party officials, while Salah was received by the Chairman of the Sokoto State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), Umaru Tambuwal, and the Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Prof. Ahmed Ala.

These followed meetings between the defectors and Governor Ahmed Aliyu at the Government House, Sokoto, over the weekend.

Kyame attributed his decision to join the APC to what he described as the governor’s leadership qualities, respect for human dignity and development projects across the state, while Salah cited the Aliyu administration’s development projects, which he said influenced his decision to leave the ADC. He pledged his support, and that of his followers, to the governor ahead of the 2027 elections.
