Motorcycle Theft in North Jakarta's Pademangan at Dawn; Suspect Threatens Victim's Relative with Gun

JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - A journalist, Feri (37), fell victim to a motorcycle theft in West Pademangan, North Jakarta, early Monday morning (9/21/2026).

He last used his motorcycle around 1:00 a.m. after shopping at a minimarket with his wife.

“When we got home, I made sure to cover the motorcycle with a blanket. I checked the keyless indicator to confirm it was locked with the red light on—if it showed blue, it meant it wasn’t locked—and the alarm was also set,” he told Kompas.com via text message on Monday.

The motorcycle was found missing around 2:45 a.m. after his relative woke him to inform that two suspects had taken it away.

“My relative woke me up and asked, ‘Did you lend the motorcycle to someone?’ My wife said, ‘No, we didn’t lend the motorcycle to anyone.’ Then my relative said, ‘Someone is taking the motorcycle, someone is riding it,’” he recounted.

In fact, his relative had encountered and confronted the two suspects.

However, one of them reportedly brandished a firearm, raising concerns for his safety.

“My relative said, ‘So you’re a thief?’ Then one of them pulled out a gun, pointing it at him. My relative got scared because of his safety, so he turned back to report to me,” Feri explained.

Attempts to track the suspects at several locations, such as the Senen flyover in Central Jakarta and the Old Town area in West Jakarta, proved unsuccessful.

Feri has reported the incident to the Pademangan Police Sector. He hopes the police will take serious action on his report.

“They advised me to prepare a written statement and other requirements. Alhamdulillah, we completed all the necessary documents; the report was accepted and immediately processed,” he added.
