Multi-tasking mom seen juggling baby and snacks at Giants game defends husband after internet attacks

A mom with a lot on her plate has even more to do now that a video of her at a San Francisco Giants game has gone viral.

On Tuesday, a woman named Erika was attending the Giants and Minnesota Twins game in San Francisco. During the televised broadcast, a camera operator settled on her as she returned to her seat, carrying her baby — and a stack of to-go food.

The broadcast announcers, Duane Kuiper and Mike Krukow, provided commentary over the scene, according to SFGATE.

“If there’s ever a true definition of a multitasking mother, that is the deal right there,” Krukow said. “I think she’s an Olympic champion.”

The woman sits back down and hands off a container of food to her husband, who starts eating. The broadcasters laugh and note with some amount of disbelief that she'll likely be the "last to eat" despite being the one to get the food and carry the baby.

The duo kept needling the father in the scene, playing out wholly fictional scenarios that imagined him nagging his wife for not bringing enough ketchup.

The scene was fairly standard fare for baseball broadcasters trying to keep the air filled between pitches, but then it hit the internet — and the discourse got a lot less fun.

Social media commenters condemned the husband, calling him lazy. More than a few advised her to seek a divorce.

On Friday, the mother published a piece on Substack defending her husband from the allegations that he was lazy and unhelpful.

She says in the piece that she and her husband, Ramses, initially "thought the broadcast was funny," noting that “Kruk and Kuip are broadcasting legends, and part of their charm is the way they tell stories about people at the ballpark.”

Erika continued, saying that they began receiving scathing messages online once the clip went viral, many assuming the worst about the couple's marriage.

The mother explains in her post that Ramses recently lost a close friend, and she took him and their baby to the Giants' game to help with the coping process.

“Recently, Ramses lost one of his oldest friends, a gifted baseball player he had known since they were kids. His death was untimely, and my husband will never admit it, but I know he’s been grieving him deeply,” she wrote. “There was no formal funeral or memorial service for him to attend. I suggested a Giants game as a way to remember his friend.”

She explained that she took the baby with her to the bathroom because she wanted to warm up, and she said she got her husband food because she wanted to take care of him while he was grieving.

“That evening, I chose to take care of him,” she wrote. “A camera catching me doing something for my husband doesn’t show all the times he has done something for me.”

Erika noted that she did not eat at the game because she had already eaten that evening. She also said that Ramses offered to take their daughter before she left, offered to let her eat first, and offered to hold the food. She declined each time because she wanted him to enjoy the evening.

The mother also addressed the broadcasters, Kruk and Kuip, who unwittingly made her and her family a target for mass humiliation on social media.

“What was a few moments of amusement on your broadcast became days of real pain for our family,” she wrote. “I wish you had known what that night meant to him before making him the punchline.”

She has asked that people who comment on the incident be kind to her husband, as she does not want him falsely branded a deadbeat by the internet.

“To the people who insulted Ramses, please remember that our children may someday read your words or watch your videos,” she said. “I don’t want them to search for this memory and find strangers calling their dad a deadbeat.”
