The Mysuru district administration invited Abhinava Gavisiddeshwara Swamiji of Gavi Matt in Koppal to inaugurate the world-famous Mysuru Dasara-2026 celebrations on October 11.
Mysuru Deputy Commissioner and Special Officer for the Dasara festival, G. Lakshmikanth Reddy, along with members of the Dasara Reception Committee, visited Gavi Matt on Sunday and formally invited the seer to inaugurate the festival.
The delegation, which included Koppal Deputy Commissioner Suresh Itnal and Zilla Panchayat Chief Executive Officer Varnith Negi, reached Gavi Matt around 2 p.m. Mysuru Zilla Panchayat CEO Yukesh Kumar, Sri Chamundeshwari Hill Development Authority secretary M.J. Rupa, and deputy secretary M. Basavaraj were also part of the delegation.
Mr. Reddy told the seer that the inauguration of Mysuru Dasara-2026 would be held on October 11 and requested him to grace the occasion and inaugurate the festival. The members of the welcome committee presented flowers and fruits to Abhinava Gavisiddeshwara Swami and felicitated him.
The seer invited the Mysuru officials and members of the Reception Committee to have prasada at Gavi Matt. Mr. Reddy and Mr. Kumar later joined the Koppal Deputy Commissioner and the Zilla Panchayat CEO for prasada at the Matt. Following this, the Mysuru Deputy Commissioner and the Zilla Panchayat CEO climbed the hill and had darshan of the Kartha Gadde.
The Mysuru officials expressed their appreciation of the green surroundings and clean environment of the Gavi Matt. They also viewed photographs that depicted the annual Gavisiddeshwara Jatra, which attracts a large gathering and is known for its religious significance. The festival is popularly described as the “Kumbh Mela of South India”.
Mr. Itnal explained to the Mysuru Deputy Commissioner the unique traditions of the Gavisiddeshwara Jatra, during which lakhs of devotees visit the Matt carrying grains and other agricultural produce.
