NCAA: Denzil Sison-Walker shines for Letran in 2-0 season opener - GMA Network

Denzil Sison-Walker is feeling right at home in the NCAA.

The transferee from the University of the Philippines wasted no time making his presence felt at Colegio de San Juan de Letran, helping the Knights surge to a 2-0 card in the NCAA Season 102 men’s basketball tournament.

That hot start was already a huge leap from last year, when Letran lost its first three games to kick off Season 101.

The 6-foot-4 rising star put on a show in his first two NCAA games, averaging 23.0 points, 2.0 rebounds, 1.5 steals, and 1.5 blocks to earn the Collegiate Press Corps’ NCAA Player of the Week award for September 12 to 18.

Sison-Walker made sure to have a memorable debut at the Mall of Asia Arena, dropping 21 points, two steals, and a block in roughly 18 minutes of action as a starter in their 84-77 win against the University of Perpetual Help System DALTA last Sunday.

He followed it up with another huge game, helping Letran crush the struggling San Sebastian College-Recoletos, 99-62, to end the opening week with a spotless run.

There, Sison-Walker put together 25 points, three rebounds, and two blocks on an impressive 4-of-7 shooting from long range.

“For me, Denzil stepping up is good,” Letran coach Allen Ricardo said in a mix of Filipino and English. “He knows the system and he knows how to deliver at the right time.”

Sison-Walker narrowly bested College of Saint Benilde rookies Matt Jucom and Jhomel Ancheta, as well as Jose Rizal University’s Lawrence Mangubat, for the weekly citation.
