A newborn baby boy was found dead after being wrapped in a bedsheet, placed inside a bag and abandoned near Agara Lake in HSR Layout in Bengaluru on Sunday (September 27, 2026) morning.
The incident came to light around 7.30 a.m. on September 27, when Maruthi (27) a driver and resident of Ramamurthy Nagar, noticed a bag near the lake while he had gone to the spot with his friend.
According to his complaint, Maruthi noticed a baby’s leg protruding from the bag. On checking, he found blood on the infant’s leg and realised that it appeared to be a newborn baby. The infant appeared to be dead, following which he alerted the police control room.
Police personnel reached the spot and took steps to secure the body. The infant is suspected to have been abandoned shortly after birth.
A case has been registered under Section 94 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023, and the HSR Layout police have launched an investigation to identify the baby’s parents or others responsible for the infant’s care and establish the circumstances leading to the abandonment and death.
Police are examining CCTV footage from the surrounding areas and gathering other evidence to trace those responsible.
