No intention of restricting political freedom on campuses: Kerala University

The Kerala University has maintained that it had no intention of restricting student politics on campus.

The university leadership made the clarification in response to a question raised by University Union chairperson Shiva S. during a Senate meeting held on Monday. The authorities also stated that there was presently no ban on student organisation activities at Kerala University.

The Senate unanimously approved the Syndicate’s recommendation to confer honorary doctorates to former ISRO chairperson K. Radhakrishnan, veteran actor Madhu, filmmaker and lyricist Sreekumaran Thampi and former Indian hockey captain P.R. Sreejesh. Vice Chancellor (in-charge) Mohanan Kunnummal informed the Senate that the convocation ceremony would be held on October 25.

In the elections held during the meeting, Left representatives were elected to two positions. Students Federation of India (SFI) candidate S. Sreejith was elected as the student representative to the Syndicate, while Priya Priyadarshan, the All Kerala Private College Teachers’ Association (AKPCTA) representative was elected as the Kerala University representative to the General Council of the Kerala Agricultural University.
