Noida's busy Elevated Road caves in, 20-foot giant crater triggers safety alarm

A section of Noida's crucial Elevated Road between Sector 61 and Sector 18 caved in on Tuesday, leaving behind a crater around 20 feet long and 10 feet deep and raising concerns over the safety of one of the city's busiest stretches. No major accident has been reported due to the incident so far.

The roughly 5-km-long Elevated Road is a key link connecting areas including Ghaziabad, Greater Noida West, Noida's several sectors and Delhi's DND. Thousands of vehicles use the road every day.

Officials of the Noida Authority said an investigation was being carried out to determine the reason behind the road collapse.

The sudden subsidence on the elevated stretch has raised questions over the quality of construction and maintenance of the city's critical infrastructure.

The Elevated Road is an important route for commuters travelling between central Noida and several adjoining areas. With a large volume of traffic using the road every day, any structural damage on the stretch poses a significant safety risk.
