Obidients vow to resist attacks as Enugu NDC guber candidate visits victims - The Guardian Nigeria News

The Obidient Movement has warned that its supporters and other Nigerians will resist attacks during the 2027 election campaign, threatening to respond to alleged political violence with “equal or double measure.”   The warning followed the reported attack on members of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) and other Nigerians during the One Million Man March in Warri, Delta State, on Friday.   In a statement issued on Saturday, the movement accused the All Progressives Congress (APC) of sponsoring political thugs to attack opposition supporters.   The APC has not been quoted as responding to the latest allegation.   The group said its supporters would no longer remain passive in the face of political violence, insisting that Nigerians have a constitutional right to campaign, assemble, and support candidates of their choice.

The statement said: “We are peaceful, but we are not helpless. We will not initiate violence, but neither will we surrender our people to intimidation.”   “Henceforth, every violent act by the APC and its thugs against Nigerians will be returned in equal or double measure.”   It warned political actors against assuming that opposition supporters would simply withdraw from campaign activities whenever violence occurred.

Meanwhile, the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) governorship candidate in Enugu State, Chinyeaka Ohaa, has visited party members receiving treatment after the September 12 attack on an NDC ward meeting in Obuofia, Nkanu West Local Council Area of the state.   Ohaa, who visited the injured members at a hospital in Agbani on Saturday, also paid their hospital bills and assured them of continued support throughout their treatment and recovery.   The attack occurred at Ihuani Awkunanaw, Obuoffia, during the party’s monthly ward meeting. The NDC said eight of its members sustained gunshot injuries in the incident.   Speaking during his visit, Ohaa said he went to the hospital not only as the NDC governorship candidate but also as a fellow citizen and son of Nkanuland, concerned about the welfare of those affected.

Similarly, the Senatorial candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) for Ekiti North, Funso Ayeni, has raised the alarm over alleged destruction of the party’s campaign office located at Ido Ekiti by political thugs believed to be working for an opposition party.   Ayeni, who spoke to newsmen in Ado Ekiti yesterday, said the campaign office was destroyed barely 48 hours after it was commissioned.   The ADC chieftain called on the police and other security agencies to investigate and expose those behind the willful damage of the campaign office and bring them to book.   He said that political disagreement should never be allowed to degenerate into harassment, intimidation and destruction of property.   He said: “I believe Ekiti must not walk the road of political violence. I am here today not only to merely inspect the damaged office, but to draw attention to the development that should concern every peace-loving citizen of Ekiti State, and in particular, Ekiti North’s Senatorial District.”
