Obong Akpubak emerges NSE fellow after 33 years in engineering - The Guardian Nigeria News
Prof. Engr. Moses Edem Akpubak has been conferred with the Fellowship of the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE), marking a major professional milestone after more than three decades in engineering and the oil and gas industry. Akpubak received the fellowship at the 2026 3rd Quarter Dinner and Conferment of Fellowship of the NSE, held on Thursday, September 24, 2026, at the Radisson Blu Hotel, Ikeja GRA, Lagos.
The recognition followed his more than 33 years of engineering practice, including technical, operational, and managerial roles in crude oil and gas production, terminal operations, offshore production, and safety management. Akpubak worked with Mobil, ExxonMobil and Seplat Energy, and served in several capacities at the Qua Iboe Terminal (QIT), Eket. His roles included Team Lead and Supervisor, Crude Oil Treating Plant; Supervisor, Crude and Condensate Exports Movement; Technical Training Coordinator; and Acting Crude Oil and Gas Exports Terminal Superintendent.
He also served as Offshore Installation Manager and Manager, Offshore Installation, at the Etim Crude Oil and Gas Production Offshore Facility, Eket. His professional experience included involvement in the Emulsion Water Treating System Project, QIT Power Upgrade and QIT Storage Tank Upgrade Project. The NSE citation also stated that Akpubak trained about 7,000 employees and contractors, including expatriates and nationals, under the ExxonMobil Safe Choice Programme between 2019 and 2020.
Akpubak began his engineering education at The Polytechnic, Calabar, where he obtained an HND in Mechanical Engineering in 1991. He later obtained a B.Eng. in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Uyo in 2008. He is a COREN-registered engineer and a member of the Nigerian Society of Engineers and the Nigerian Institution of Mechanical Engineers.
The NSE citation further recognised his involvement in professional ethics, quality and safety management, community leadership and humanitarian activities. The fellowship confers on Akpubak the professional designation Fellow of the Nigerian Society of Engineers (FNSE), adding to his professional record in engineering practice, operations and safety management.
