Odell Beckham Jr. reacts to being released by New York Giants - Giants Wire

Odell Beckham Jr. did not wait long to address his latest departure from the New York Giants.

Shortly after the team informed him of his release Tuesday, the veteran wide receiver texted NFL insider Josina Anderson with a blunt update: “I just got released.”

A follow-up message made his intentions just as clear.

The move ends a short second and unfulfilling chapter in East Rutherford. Beckham signed a one-year, $1.3 million contract in June after a workout with the club, returning eight years after New York traded him to Cleveland. He made the 53-man roster on the strength of a seven-catch, 76-yard preseason and reunited with head coach John Harbaugh, who coached him in Baltimore in 2023.

The regular season never opened a real role. Through three games, Beckham played 20 offensive snaps and finished with zero receptions on one target, which came in Sunday’s 12-7 win over the Tennessee Titans.

The Giants, now 2-1, have leaned on Malik Nabers, rookie Malachi Fields and Darnell Mooney. Beckham, 33, does not play special teams, and the club needed a roster spot for punt returner Braxton Berrios after exhausting his practice-squad elevations.

Beckham is not expected to return to New York’s practice squad. He will look for another opportunity elsewhere after sitting out 2025 and last catching an NFL pass with Miami in 2024.

Drafted 12th overall in 2014, OBJ remains one of the franchise’s most recognizable receivers, with 5,476 yards and 44 touchdowns in his first five seasons.
