One Nations’ policy to ‘slash and burn’ international students would ‘decimate’ universities and the economy - ABC News & Headlines – Australian Broadcasting Corporation

The university sector is warning One Nation's migration policy would shutter campuses across the nation - reducing research, robbing workforce capacity and crushing one of the nation's biggest exports. 

One Nation is proposing hefty caps on the number of international student places - planning to cut them from 590 000, to 350 000. 

It also plans to slash the number of graduates, who wish to remain in Australia after their studies, cutting that number by 85 percent, from 270 000, to just 40 000.

Eight of the nation’s largest universities, including Sydney and Melbourne Universities, is represented by the "Group of Eight”. The Groups’ CEO, Vicki Thomson, says its a race to the bottom to decimate the tertiary education sector.
