'Our neighbours, our friends': 8 U.S. celebrities who've thrown support behind Canada - National Post

Most recently, American actress Sally Field spoke out during the Emmy Awards on Monday night, saying, “Blessed Canada, our neighbours, our friends,” during her acceptance speech for best actress in a limited or anthology series or TV movie. She received the award for her role in the Netflix drama Remarkably Bright Creatures, which was filmed in Vancouver.
But while several Canadian celebrities have been vocal in their patriotism since the beginning of the trade war, such as rock band Rodeo Blue, who denounced Trump’s renaming of Lake Ontario at their recent Toronto concert, fewer American celebrities have voiced their support for their Canadian neighbours.

And yet, Sally Field is not alone in her sentiment.
Trump and the current U.S. administration are frequently the butt of the joke for American late-night show hosts, but perhaps none have been as supportive of Canada as Seth Meyers, who said in a segment of his show in May 2025: “Congrats, Donald. You turned the most polite country on Earth into an enemy.”
Later on in the tongue-in-cheek segment, which focused on the first meeting between Prime Minister Mark Carney and Trump, Meyers said: “Let’s recap this very normal meeting with our closest ally and trading partner. Trump said he was imposing tariffs on Canada in order to negotiate a better trade deal, even though (he said) ‘we don’t do business with Canada.’ And the only concession he wants is ‘friendship’. But it doesn’t matter if they negotiate because he won’t lift the tariffs anyway. And when asked why not, he said ‘that’s just the way it is.'”
On a more serious note, he added that the Trump administration’s suggestion that Canada “has been feeding off the U.S.” is “insane.” He added: “They are close partners of ours. We buy stuff from them, they buy stuff from us and, in the process, our people cooperate and our nations come together.”
