Oya Kedungjati Valley in Yogya: Canoeing, Picnicking, and Swimming

During the dry season, one highly recommended destination is the Oya Kedungjati Valley.

This site is only open and accessible during the dry season.

The reason is that the Oya Kedungjati Valley is situated along the Oya River, which has a gentle flow during the dry season.

Conversely, in the rainy season, the river’s flow becomes much stronger, making it unsafe for tourism activities.

Kompas.com visited the Oya Kedungjati Valley tourist spot on Thursday (9/10/2026).

Visitors do not need to purchase an entrance ticket; the only fees are parking charges: Rp 5,000 for motorcycles and Rp 10,000 for cars.

For canoeing, the fee ranges from Rp 10,000 to Rp 15,000 per person. Visitors can paddle around the dammed river, which forms a lake.

Each canoe accommodates up to two people. Wearing life jackets is mandatory for canoeing to ensure safety.

Visitors can also enjoy picnicking on the riverbank. Several food stalls offer a variety of meals and drinks, such as soto soup, instant noodles, iced tea, and iced orange juice.

However, bringing a picnic mat from home is advisable to spread out on the river’s edge. Bringing a portable stove for barbecue is also a great idea.

For swimming, wearing a life jacket is required for safety. Renting a life jacket costs Rp 5,000 per person.

There is also a shallow water play area located next to the canoe registration area, perfect for visitors with children.

The Oya Kedungjati Valley is open for canoeing and swimming from 6:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. WIB.

For camping, the site is open 24 hours. Visitors interested in camping need to notify the management. The camping area is located along the riverbank, with a land rental fee of Rp 10,000.
