Pakistan's Mohsin Naqvi snubbed again as India refuse to collect Women's Asia Cup
The Indian women's team decided not to accept the Women's Asia Cup trophy from the Asian Cricket Council president and Pakistan cricket chief Mohsin Naqvi after their win over Sri Lanka in the final on Sunday, September 13 in Dubai. The incident happened a year after the PCB chief refused to hand over the Indian men's team the Asia Cup crown
The cameras caught Mohsin Naqvi seated alongside the dignitaries later in the match as India were putting the finishing touches to their final win over Sri Lanka. He was seen sitting close to BCCI vice-president Rajeev Shukla, secretary Devajit Saikia and others as the game ended and India won the match by 72 runs.
India's players gathered around head coach Amol Muzumdar as he addressed the squad following their title-winning performance. The celebrations then moved into a medal ceremony within the team, with Saikia and vice-president Shukla presenting the fielding medal to Nandani Sharma. Saikia also interacted with the players, congratulating the team and sharing in the celebrations after their impressive triumph. Naqvi was present on the stage and handed the runners-up cheque to Sri Lanka captain Chamari Athapaththu. Right after Athapaththu talked to Farvez Maharoof, the presentation ceremony came to an end.
As soon as the ceremony closed, Naqvi was seen making his way off the ground, with the fans being vocal about what had happened. HOW DID NAQVI ACT IN MEN'S ASIA CUP 2025 FINAL?
Chaos ensued at the men's Asia Cup Final in September 2025 after Mohsin Naqvi-led ACC ran away with the Asia Cup trophy and medals. The Indian cricket team, who had beaten Pakistan fair and square, were left standing for more than an hour waiting to be called on stage.
The Indian team had stated that they would not take the trophy from Naqvi amidst India's troubled geopolitical relationship with Pakistan and had requested for the trophy to be handed over by the vice chairman of the Emirates Cricket Board.
However, Naqvi denied the request and stayed firm on his stance that India will have to receive the trophy from him. Crazy scenes followed when one of the ACC officials was seen taking the trophy off the ground as the Indian team waited to get on the podium.
India are yet to receive the trophy from ACC and the standoff has continued with Naqvi holding his ground and telling that the team captain should collect it directly from his hands.- EndsPublished By: alan johnPublished On: Sep 14, 2026 00:19 IST
