Palace releases King Charles message as monarch warns AI leaders of existential risks - The News International

Palace has released King Charles strong message after the monarch warned AI leaders of existential risks if technology falls into wrong hands.

The King convened AI pioneers, government representatives and thought leaders at Dumfries House to discuss how AI can be developed and deployed in ways that benefit society.

He warned artificial intelligence executives on Thursday of the "existential dangers" posed by the technology falling into the wrong hands and said sufficient safeguards were needed before it becomes "too ⁠late".

"Those who have created these technologies are now increasingly warning that AI risks developing darker capacities - perhaps even to take life," King Charles told executives from Nvidia, Google DeepMind, OpenAI, Anthropic and other companies.

"In this regard, if ⁠I may say so, there seems urgency in adequately considering the existential dangers of such technologies falling into the ⁠wrong hands, and being used in potentially catastrophic ways."

He added: "The task before you is ⁠not merely to advance technology, but to ensure that it remains ⁠firmly in the service of humanity, community and the natural world."

Later the palace shared a group photo of the AI bosses with King Charles with monarch’s message.

“I really am enormously grateful for the presence in this room of many of our greatest technological minds, and indeed, for the thoughtful stewardship demonstrated by those gathered here today as you consider the fundamental principles that should – and must – guide the development of Artificial Intelligence in the years ahead,” the King's message reads.
