Patrick Reed withdraws from BMW PGA Championship - Golfweek
Patrick Reed withdrew from the DP World Tour's BMW PGA Championship during Friday's second round, citing an injury.
Reed, 36, opened with 4-under 68 at Wentworth Club in Surrey, England, and started the day just three strokes off the lead, but got off to a horrendous start and was 9 over through nine holes. That included a triple bogey at the first, one of two sevens on the card.
Reed was shown on TV taking a cart ride back to the clubhouse, and the television announcers speculated that he may have hit a root on his downswing while playing from the trees on the ninth hole.
Reed, who is going to earn his way back to the PGA Tour after leaving LIV Golf at the end of his contract through finishing in the top 10 of the Order of Merit, has led the way on the Race to Dubai since February 9 after winning the Hero Dubai Desert Classic and Qatar Masters to start the season and strengthened his lead last week with a runner-up at the Amgen Irish Open.
Only one American β Collin Morikawa in 2021 β has ever captured the DP World Tour season-long title.
"It would mean a lot," Reed said. "I've always prided myself as being an American that consistently comes over and shows support to this tour. But to also be able to go ahead, a Race to Dubai win would mean a lot. It's definitely in the back of my mind, but at the end of the day just go out there and take care of business each and every day. Hopefully we play late enough on Sundays coming in that we're able to kind of cap that off at the end."
Unfortunately, there wonβt be a late Sunday tee time this week; there wonβt be a tee time at all.
