Patriots CB Christian Gonzalez named to PFF’s NFL Week 1 Team of Week - Patriots Wire

New England Patriots cornerback Christian Gonzalez was a standout performer in the league in Week 1.

Pro Football Focus named Gonzalez to its NFL Week 1 Team of the Week after delivering an impressive showing against the Seattle Seahawks.

Gonzalez was a flex option on the team following a strong performance in the Patriots’ 13-10 loss to the Seahawks. He recorded two passes defensed in the game and consistently stayed with receivers, while also challenging passing lanes and helping limit the Seahawks’ opportunities through the air.

The former All-Pro Gonzalez made his presence felt in the game, providing a steady force in New England’s secondary. Seahawks superstar Jaxon Smith-Njigba did go for 122 receiving yards and a touchdown in the game, and the Seahawks did win the passing yards battle over the Patriots, but individually, Gonzalez still played a great game.

Gonzalez is off to a good start to the season and his level of play will be needed for New England moving forward. His Week 1 performance gave the Patriots an encouraging sign that one of their top young defenders is ready to make an immediate impact.
