Percy Lapid's son Mark Mabasa detained by US Immigration in California - GMA Network

NEW YORK - US immigration authorities in Los Angeles, California have detained singer Mark Mabasa, son of slain radio broadcaster Percy Lapid.

According to the US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) Online Detainee Locator System, Mark Louis Santiago Mabasa is currently being detained at the Adelanto ICE Processing Center in California.

Mark’s uncle, Roy Mabasa, confirmed to GMA News that his nephew was arrested by US immigration authorities.

However, the family has not yet received details about the reason for his arrest.

The family of Percy Lapid, whose real name is Percival Mabasa, is currently in the process of seeking political asylum in the United States.

Lapid was ambushed and killed by a gunman in Las Piñas City in October 2022.

Authorities are still searching for former Bureau of Corrections director general Gerald Bantag, who has been accused of being the alleged mastermind behind Lapid’s killing. A court in Las Piñas City issued a warrant of arrest for Bantag in April 2023.

GMA News is seeking a statement from the Philippine Consulate General in Los Angeles regarding Mabasa’s arrest. —KG, GMA News
