Philippines: At least 2 students killed in school shooting
AdvertisementAt least one gunman reportedly fired gunshots at a school in the southern Philippines on Friday, officials said, adding that several students had been taken to the hospital.
At least two students were killed in the incident, authorities said.
Emergency services were called to Banga National High School in South Cotabato province in Mindanao at about 1:30 p.m. local time (0530 GMT).
Banga town mayor Albert Palencia was quoted by the Reuters news agency as saying that a third person, believed to be a 16-year-old suspected gunman, was also killed.
Eight people were injured, with four in citical condition, he said, adding that the victims were all aged between 14 and 17.
It was not immediately clear how many shooters were involved.
In a video posted on Facebook and verified by the AFP news agency, a man is seen carrying what appears to be a wounded child from the school. In another, a teacher speaking in a local dialect can be heard saying there were two shooters, with a student insisting they were outsiders.
