Pinarayi Vijayan questions ED probe into Exalogic-CMRL transaction

Leader of the Opposition Pinarayi Vijayan on Saturday criticised the Directorate of Enforcement (ED) over its investigation into the Exalogic-CMRL transaction, alleging that the agency was using the case to target him and his daughter.

Inaugurating a Communist Party of India (Marxist) [CPI(M)] Alappuzha district committee meeting, Mr. Vijayan said the ED appeared to be adopting an approach of looking beyond him and targeting his family. Referring to the agency’s approach, he said that it was not the daughter they were targeting, but the father. He added that it was not something the father was seeing for the first time.

Holding that Exalogic had received legitimate payments for services rendered in accordance with the law and had paid all applicable taxes to the government, he also pointed out that the company had provided services not only to the CMRL, but also to several other institutions, including schools run by a prominent charitable organisation, he said.

He said allegations of money being transferred abroad were being raised in connection with a transaction based on an agreement entered into years before his daughter’s marriage.

According to him, the ruling party at the Centre was targeting him and his daughter as part of an attempt to weaken the Opposition.
