PL, Flávio Bolsonaro's Party, Grows to 121 Lawmakers; Left Will Have 124 - 06/10/2026 - Brazil - Folha de S.Paulo
Flávio Bolsonaro’s PL gained 23 lawmakers in the elections and formed a 121-member caucus in the Chamber of Deputies, the largest in the chamber since 1986. Including parties such as PP and Republicanos, the right will have 303 lawmakers, or 59% of the total, a share close to the current level (57%).
President Lula’s PT went from 65 to 70 elected lawmakers and, together with its federation partners PCdoB and PV, will be the second-largest force. Along with PDT, PSOL, Rede and PSB, the left will retain 24% of the Chamber (124 lawmakers). The centrão will have 86 seats (17%, down from the current 19%).
The centrão shrank but could grow as lawmakers from parties that failed to meet the electoral performance threshold join its ranks. The União Brasil-PP federation fell from 98 to 87 lawmakers; Republicanos went from 42 to 41; PSD from 48 to 43; and MDB from 38 to 36. Even so, the group remains the balance of power: without it, neither PT nor PL can form a majority to pass legislation.
