Plenary deliberations on 2027 budget begin - GMA Network

The period for sponsorship and debates on the proposed 2027 national budget amounting to P7.2 trillion has started, with House Committee on Appropriations Chair Representative Mikaela Suansing sponsoring the bill.

“We deliberate on the proposed P7.2-trillion 2027 national budget under a challenging fiscal landscape. The country is grappling with slower economic growth, inflationary pressures, rising debt obligations, geopolitical conflict, volatile fuel prices and climate-related risks—all of which place greater constraints on our fiscal space,” Suansing said in her sponsorship speech.

“It is our objective to ensure that every aspect of the budget must act towards capacitating every Filipino through quality education and healthcare, stronger social services, quality jobs—in conjunction to ensuring food and energy security, critical infrastructure and climate resilience,” she added.

Under the proposed 2027 General Appropriations Bill, Suansing said the education sector, which includes basic, higher and technical-vocational education, is allocated P1.326 trillion.

The Department of Health, PhilHealth and specialty hospitals, meanwhile, will receive P353.76 billion.

Suansing also stated that the Department of Social Welfare and Development will receive P241.56 billion while Agriculture and Agrarian Reform sector, P276.57 billion. — BM, GMA News
