Police chase ends with murder accused jumping off Sonipat flyover, survives
A man wanted in connection with the killing of a toll plaza employee earlier this year was severely injured after he jumped off a flyover in an attempt to evade police in Haryana's Sonipat, an official said.
The scene β something straight out of an action thriller β unfolded as Manoj alias Filmy and his associate encountered a team of the Haryana Special Task Force (STF).
The accused were travelling in a car from Panipat towards Delhi on National Highway 44 (NH 44) when the police team, which had been following them, intercepted the vehicle near a flyover.
According to the police, as the STF personnel surrounded the car and moved in to take the duo into custody, Manoj jumped off the flyover in an attempt to escape.
The fall caused serious injuries, and he was subsequently rushed to a hospital for treatment. His alleged accomplice, Sachin, was caught by the STF team at the spot.
The STF also recovered the vehicle and an illegal pistol from the scene.
This comes months after Sanjay Shukla, a manager at a toll booth in Hisar, was run over by a car there in June this year.
Both Manoj and Sachin are accused in his murder. The duo had been absconding since the incident.
Investigators are questioning Sachin to gather further information about the case, in-charge of Haryana STF's Sonipat unit, Ajay Dhankhar, said.
Manoj already has a criminal record, and details of his previous cases are being examined as part of the investigation, per the police.
Officials are also looking into Sachin's criminal history.- Ends(Based on inputs from Pawan Kumar)Published By: mayukh Published On: Sep 20, 2026 09:59 IST
