Police to arraign three over officers assault, obstruction in Ogun - Punch Newspapers
The Ogun State Police Command has said three suspects will be arraigned before the Ago-Iwoye Magistrate Court on Friday over the alleged assault and obstruction of police officers performing their lawful duties. The suspects are 51-year-old Alaba Mulika, 21-year-old Alawode Iyanu, and 29-year-old Temitope Saliu. The command disclosed this in a statement by its Police Public Relations Officer, Oluseyi Babaseyi, on Friday, saying the Commissioner of Police, Bode Ojajuni, ordered an investigation into the incident. “The Ogun State Police Command will today charge three suspects before the Ago-Iwoye Magistrate Court following an investigation ordered by the Commissioner of Police, CP Bode Ojajuni, psc, FCSS, MNIPR, into an incident involving the alleged obstruction and serious assault of police officers performing their lawful duties,” the statement said. The incident occurred on September 29, 2026, when a police team led by ASP Akeredolu Emmanuel intercepted an unregistered Toyota Camry at Fibigbade Street, Ago-Iwoye.See more Punch stories on Google.Add Punch on Google According to the command, “While the vehicle was being conveyed to the station, a Toyota Highlander, registration number JJJ 215 JV, allegedly blocked its movement at Abobi Street.” “A physical confrontation allegedly followed, during which INSPR Abolarinwa Wasiu and CPL Olubamiro Adeniyi were allegedly assaulted,” the statement said. The command said, “Video recordings of the incident, which subsequently circulated on social media, formed part of the materials reviewed during the investigation.” Following the directive of the Commissioner of Police, the command said detectives investigated the circumstances surrounding the incident, visited the scene and arrested the three suspects. Babaseyi said, “They will be charged on five counts bordering on conspiracy, obstruction of police officers, alleged serious assault on police officers and conduct likely to cause a breach of peace.” Reiterating the command’s position on the incident, the statement said, “The Commissioner of Police reiterates that the safety and protection of police officers performing lawful duties remain a priority of the Command.” The command also urged members of the public to use lawful channels when raising complaints. “Members of the public are encouraged to channel complaints through lawful mechanisms and avoid physical confrontation with police personnel,” the statement said.
