Prabowo on Bonuses for the Indonesian National Team: Managed by PSSI Chairman
JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - President Prabowo Subianto stated that the bonuses for the Indonesian national football team will be managed by the Chairman of the Indonesian Football Association (PSSI), Erick Thohir.
Prabowo made this remark after watching the match between the Indonesian national team and Thailand in the final of the FIFA ASEAN Cup 2026 at Gelora Bung Karno Stadium in Jakarta on Monday (5/10/2026) night.
"Yes, that will be managed by the PSSI Chairman," Prabowo said, as quoted by Kompas TV, when asked by reporters about the bonuses for the Indonesian players on Monday.
On this occasion, Prabowo expressed his joy and pride at the Indonesian national team's victory in this international football match.
For Prabowo, this victory is an example that the Indonesian national team does not easily give up.
"They didn't quit until the last moments. I think itβs admirable, and this is an example. An example of a spirit that knows no defeat, and we can succeed, and this might be the first time in history that we won a FIFA international match," he stated.
As previously reported, the Indonesian national team emerged as the champion of the FIFA ASEAN Cup 2026 after defeating Thailand in a penalty shootout, 4-2, following a 2-2 draw over 120 minutes.
Indonesia took the lead first with a free-kick goal from Dean James in the 84th minute.
However, just three minutes later, Thailand equalized through Iklas Sanron.
The War Elephant team managed to turn the tables with a goal from Peeradol in extra time before Indonesia equalized again thanks to a goal from Elkan Baggott.
The winner was then determined by a penalty shootout.
