Legal cigarette sales in Queensland rose 55% in the first month after the state gained stronger powers to shut illegal shops, according to data provided to the Illicit Tobacco and e-cigarette Commissioner.
Governments across the country have been battling to squash the illicit tobacco trade, with some premiers calling for the Federal government to slash the excise to make the legal product cheaper.
