Quirino Governor Dax Cua dies at 48 - GMA Network

Quirino Governor Dakila Carlo “Dax” Cua has died at 48, according to a post by the House of Representatives on Wednesday.

Reports of his death had circulated since Tuesday, but were later confirmed by the House and other organizations.

Cua was a former member of the House of Representatives, serving from the 15th to the 17th Congresses as representative of Quirino’s lone district.

“We remember Governor Dax for his years of dedicated public service and his commitment to the people of Quirino and to strengthening local governance in the Philippines and across the Asia-Pacific region,” the House of Representatives said on X, formerly Twitter.

Cua also served as president of the Union of Local Authorities of the Philippines (ULAP) and the United Cities and Local Governments Asia-Pacific (UCLG ASPAC).

In a Facebook post, UCLG ASPAC also mourned Cua’s death.

“As we bid farewell to a remarkable leader, we also celebrate a life of service and leadership. We believe that his legacy will continue to guide and inspire our work, and that his contributions will live on through the efforts of local governments across the Asia-Pacific region and beyond,” UCLG ASPAC said.

His cause of death has yet to be disclosed by his family.

Cua was a graduate of the University of the Philippines. He later served as vice governor of Quirino for six years before being elected governor of the province.

During his years as a lawmaker, Cua chaired the House Committees on Ecology and Ways and Means. He was a principal author of the Tax Reform for Acceleration and Inclusion (TRAIN) Act and authored the Rice Tariffication Act, Ease of Doing Business and Efficient Government Service Delivery Act, and Philippine Competition Act.

Aside from serving as president of ULAP, Cua was also national chairman of the League of Provinces of the Philippines.— MCG, GMA News
