Rabid dog bites 18 people in Gujarat town, locals beat canine to death
A rabid dog that went on a biting spree in Gujarat's Kheda district was beaten to death by a crowd of locals after it attacked 18 people in Kathlal town, triggering panic across the area. Three of those injured were referred to a hospital in Nadiad for further treatment.
The attacks triggered panic across Kathlal, with the dog targeting people on the streets as well as residents standing outside their homes. As the animal moved through the town, it suddenly attacked one person after another, leaving people scrambling to get to safety.
Talking about the incident, Rajeshbhai Parmar, a villager, said, βThe dog suddenly attacked me on the street. It bit my hand, following which I had to rush for treatment.β
Following the attacks, all 18 injured people were rushed to the community health centre (CHC) in Kathlal with the help of residents. Doctors immediately began treating the victims and administered anti-rabies injections. Three patients with serious injuries were later referred to Nadiad for further treatment.
The repeated attacks left residents particularly worried about the safety of children and elderly people in the area. The local administration and the municipal team's stray-animal control unit were alerted, and efforts were launched to locate and capture the dog.
As fear spread through the town, residents soon joined the search, carrying sticks and other objects as they looked for the animal. The dog was eventually surrounded by a crowd and beaten to death.
The incident has once again raised concerns among locals over the need to prevent stray and aggressive dogs from posing a threat in residential areas.- EndsInputs from Hetali M ShahPublished By: Akash ChatterjeePublished On: Sep 17, 2026 07:16 IST
