Rajinikanth watches Soori's Mandaadi, his heartfelt call leaves actor moved
Superstar Rajinikanth watched Soori’s latest film, Mandaadi, and personally called the actor over the phone to share his appreciation for the film. Soori revealed the Superstar’s reaction on social media, describing the call from Rajinikanth as a “priceless moment” and his words of praise as a blessing for the entire team.
Soori shared a picture from his conversation with Rajinikanth and wrote on X saying, “Superstar Rajinikanth Sir watched and loved our #Mandaadi. His heartfelt call means the world to me and our entire team (sic).” The actor added that hearing Rajinikanth’s voice on the other end of the call was a moment he would cherish. The appreciation comes as Mandaadi, which released in theatres on September 10, continues to draw attention for its performances and large-scale boat-racing sequences. Directed by Mathimaran Pugazhendhi, the film revolves around a traditional sailing boat race along the Tamil Nadu coastline, with Soori playing Mandaadi (meaning sea wanderer), the leader of a racing team.
The film’s sea-based sequences were among its biggest production challenges. The team spent nearly two months shooting at sea, with the demanding schedule involving extensive work on boats and in open waters. A production boat also capsized during filming, resulting in the loss of equipment and further delays.
Mandaadi marks another step in Soori’s evolution as a leading man. After establishing himself as one of Tamil cinema’s popular comedians and supporting actors, he made a dramatic shift with Vetri Maaran’s Viduthalai Part 1. He subsequently took on lead roles in films including Garudan and Maaman, with Mandaadi continuing his run of protagonist-driven projects. The film has also received appreciation from Soori’s peers. Actors Sivakarthikeyan and Vishnu Vishal congratulated the actor following its release, with Sivakarthikeyan praising his “hard work, persistence and relentless dedication”. The film’s boat-racing sequences, particularly its climax, have emerged as one of its major talking points.
Mandaadi stars Suhas, Mahima Nambiar, Sathyaraj, Mithun Jai Sankar, Ravindra Vijay, Bala Saravanan and Stun Siva alongside Soori. GV Prakash Kumar has composed the music, SR Kathir is the cinematographer and Pradeep E Ragav is the editor. Peter Hein, Dhilip Subbarayan and Mahesh Mathew choreographed the action sequences.
The film is currently running in theatres.- EndsPublished By: K JananiPublished On: Sep 15, 2026 11:30 ISTALSO READ | Mandaadi review: Soori brings the fire, the sailboat race brings the thrill
