Rape survivor Alison Botha delivers powerful message on GBV amid spate of murders - EWN

Alison Botha has become a beacon of hope in South Africa after surviving a brutal attack and rape in 1994 and stepping up as a motivational speaker.

This ultimate survivor has now spoken out amid the Ekurhuleni murders, which have seen at least nine women lose their lives in the past few months, sending shockwaves throughout the country.

‘Gender-Based Violence and Femicide was classified as a national disaster on 21 November 2025, but no tangible or substantive action has backed the declaration to date,’ wrote Vukile Dlwati in an opinion piece for EWN, echoing what many South Africans are feeling.

In a powerful video posted on TikTok, Alison Botha urges the country's leaders to make "impactful, long-lasting and real change" to address the scourge.

Botha notes how she herself, as a survivor of gender-based violence (GBV), went on to talk about what happened to her in the hope that bringing awareness to the situation would make a difference.
