Residual monsoon effects bring brief respite to Karachi

Parts of Karachi received scattered rain on Wednesday night, bringing brief relief from humid weather. Rain was reported in Ayesha Manzil, Surjani Town and Gulshan-e-Maymar, Gulshan-e-Iqbal, Scheme 33, Federal B area, Gulistan-e-Jauhar while Old City areas received light drizzle, according to initial reports. Residents in the affected localities said the showers, though short-lived, helped lower temperatures. Earlier, the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) had said that the rain-bearing system's residual effects could produce drizzle and light showers in some parts of the city during the morning and night. However, the system from the Bay of Bengal had moved towards the Arabian Sea, ending the possibility of rainfall in the metropolis. According to the PMD, Karachi recorded a maximum temperature of 34°C on Wednesday, with humidity reaching 78 per cent.
