Ruru Madrid says 'Hari ng Tondo' is his darkest role yet - GMA Network
Ruru Madrid has an intriguing hint about “Hari ng Tondo” — it is his darkest role yet.
After renewing his contract on Thursday, the Kapuso Primetime Action Hero shared in an exclusive interview with GMA News Online a few details about his character.
According to Ruru, there are a lot of stories told about Tondo, some of which are already dark.
“But doing this project, it showed me ways that we can actually do this, that we can tell these kinds of stories,” Ruru said.
“I guess I can say that it’s time to normalize, you know, to talk about these things. You know, about drugs, about the bad things happening in our society, corruption."
Ruru cited his previous characters, who are known as simply good or bad.
“But in this project, all the characters are gray characters. We have decisions in life, we do things in life that are not morally correct, but we need to do just because it’s the only way to survive,” he said.
“That really is our life now. Because life is hard, because Filipinos are going through difficult experiences, many are forced to do things that are not right due to problems in life,” he added.
Although he calls the characters dark, Ruru noted that the show still has a lot of lessons for viewers, especially the youth.
“That’s life. It’s not always a fairytale. We really need to face what our life is and this project will show people that,” Ruru said.
“Hari ng Tondo” premieres soon on GMA Network.
