Sachivalayam employees organise ‘Chalo Vijayawada’, stage protest at Dharna Chowk

Employees of Swarna Grama and Ward Sachivalayams staged a protest at Dharna Chowk in Vijayawada on Sunday (September 27, 2026) demanding that the government solve their demands.

Despite warning by the police, thousands of staff working in Swarna Grama and Ward Sachivalayams organised ‘Chalo Vijayawada’ to mount pressure on the government. The sachivalayam employees, attached to various departments, were demanding the government to grant two notional increments, announce permanent structure for giving promotions, clear the wage dues and other demands.

Though the leaders of the sachivayalam employees associations announced ‘Chalo Vijayawada’ on September 27, in advance, the government has not invited the employees for talks, and tried to suppress the protest, they alleged.

“Police announced that protests were prohibited and action would be taken against those who violate the orders and kept the sachialayam employees under house arrest,” Kumar, a protestor, said.

“Government, which was using Sachivalayam staff for completing SIR, distributing pensions every month and for conducting many surveys, was giving step mother treatment for the employees,” the protestors alleged.

Though the government tried to stop the Sachivalayam employees and used police force, many staff from different districts participated in ‘Chalo Vijayawada’ and raised their voice, the leaders said.

Police personnel deployed at bus stops and railway stations, BRTS Road, Dharna Chowk and at Lenin Centre and prevented the Sachivalayam staff from organising the protest. A few protestors were taken into preventive custody, and were shifted to different locations, the employees said, adding that some staff suffered injuries during the protest.

The employees criticised the government for using police to spoil the agitation, instead of solving their long pending demands.
