Samsung Electronics' market cap surpasses 2 quadrillion won - Yonhap News Agency

SEOUL, June 1 (Yonhap) -- The market capitalization of top-cap Samsung Electronics Co. surpassed 2 quadrillion won (US$1.32 trillion) for the first time Monday, the bourse operator said.

As of 11:44 a.m., Samsung Electronics shares were trading at 346,500 won, up 9.31 percent from the previous session on the benchmark Korea Composite Stock Price Index, according to the Korea Exchange (KRX).

The company's market capitalization stood at 2,025.7 trillion won at the time.

Last month, the chipmaking giant's market capitalization surpassed 1.5 quadrillion, becoming the second Asian company to surpass the US$1 trillion milestone after Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co.

Its chipmaking rival SK hynix had a market capitalization of 1,689.8 trillion won as of the same time on Monday, the KRX said.
