Former Big Brother Naija housemate Segun Olusemo, popularly known as Sheggz, has defended his financial role during his relationship with fellow reality star Bella Okagbue, saying he was the primary provider despite claims that he depended on her financially. Sheggz clarified during a street interview with social commentator Oyemykke in London, which surfaced online on Sunday, October 4. His comments come amid renewed public interest in the four-year relationship following their highly publicised breakup and a series of allegations concerning money, marriage and promises. The former BBNaija housemate rejected descriptions of him as a “gigolo” and dismissed suggestions that he relied on Bella to fund his lifestyle.Speaking about his finances, Sheggz said he owned properties in both London and Lagos, including a house on Banana Island. He also addressed claims about how expenses were handled during his relationship with Bella, stating that they both contributed financially but that he covered the larger share. According to him, their financial arrangement was approximately 70/30 in his favour. “I gave everything I could give. I’m not saying she is lying. She brought stuff to the table. 70/30. She’s a woman, she works as well. She’s a star too. We’re both stars,” he said. Sheggz further maintained that he embraced the role of provider in the relationship, saying Bella lived with him and that he took responsibility for their expenses.“I’m the man, I’m the provider. She lived with me, I provided everything for her. Like I gave her cars, I did everything for her,” he said. He added that the relationship was based on genuine love and expressed regret that their private financial arrangements had become a subject of public discussion after their breakup. “I loved her to bits. That was the love of my life,” Sheggz said, adding that if they had eventually married, he believed the current controversy would not have become a public conversation. His comments come weeks after the former couple became embroiled in a public dispute following their January 2026 breakup. The controversy intensified after alleged private WhatsApp conversations involving Bella, Sheggz and members of their families surfaced online. Some of the purported messages contained discussions about money, while others appeared to show Sheggz making elaborate plans for their proposed engagement and wedding. The authenticity of the leaked chats has not been independently established. Bella has also addressed the collapse of the relationship, saying she had given Sheggz another chance because she believed in his ability to change. She maintained that her desire for marriage was not desperation and said she eventually decided to walk away. The financial dispute has since taken a legal dimension, with Bella’s lawyers reportedly demanding repayment of alleged loans and raising other claims against Sheggz. His camp has denied allegations of wrongdoing and maintained that he made substantial financial contributions during the relationship. No court has determined the competing allegations.
