Embattled senior police officer Shadrack Sibiya has complained about being kept in isolation at the Kgosi Mampuru correctional centre in Pretoria.

Sibiya told the Magistrate in his rape case on Friday that he doesn’t understand why he is being kept in solitary confinement.

The senior officer has been behind bars for more than a week now, following allegations that he sexually groomed a 16-year-old girl and raped an 18-year-old woman.

His lawyer, Estelle Kilian, said that it makes no sense to keep him in isolation.

"In the general population, there are solitary and single cells. He doesn’t need to be separated from other people in these circumstances."

Investigating Officer Nokukhanya Ndlovu explained why Sibiya is being kept in isolation.

"here is a reason why he is kept in C-Max. It’s because of security reasons and his safety. That is why the agreement was made with the head of prison and those conditions are proper for any human being.
