Six arrested after allegedly hijacked vehicle spotted on R300 - IOL
Six suspects were arrested after a vehicle allegedly hijacked in Mfuleni was spotted on the R300.
Six hijacking suspects who fled on foot were caught after City Traffic officers spotted a vehicle believed to have been hijacked in Mfuleni, where the ownerβs husband was stabbed.
The arrests followed a pursuit on the R300 in the early hours of Saturday morning after traffic officers were alerted to the vehicle.
Cape Town Traffic Service spokesperson Kevin Jacobs said officers received the alert near the R300 southbound and Van Riebeeck Road at about 1.40am.
Two traffic vehicles joined the pursuit before the suspects fled on foot.
Traffic officers apprehended three suspects, while SAPS caught another three.
Jacobs said the owner later confirmed that the vehicle had been hijacked in Mfuleni and that her husband was stabbed during the incident.
In a separate incident on Friday, a Highway Patrol Unit officerβs in-vehicle Automated Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) system picked up a white Ford Courier reported stolen.
The vehicle was travelling northbound on Valhalla Drive at about midday when the officer received the alert.
Jacobs said the officer made a U-turn and followed the vehicle before stopping it along Bofors Circle in Epping.
A vehicle check confirmed that it had been reported stolen in Kleinvlei.
The driver was found not to have a valid driving licence and was handed over to Elsies River SAPS together with the vehicle.
A case of possession of suspected stolen property was opened.
