Steelers' Joey Porter unlikely to play in Week 1, receives trade update - Steelers Wire

ESPN's Adam Schefter and Ian Rapoport just provided an important Week 1 and trade update on Pittsburgh Steelers cornerback Joey Porter Jr., whose future in the Steel City is uncertain amid contract drama.

On Sunday, Schefter and Rapoport reported that Porter is "unlikely to play Sunday against the Atlanta Falcons because of a back injury," and provided an interesting trade update.

"Sources said Porter, who had previously requested a trade from the Steelers, is open to playing elsewhere, and an early-season trade is possible," Schefter and Rapoport wrote. "The Steelers have been open to listening to offers for Porter, sources said. But there has not been notable interest at Pittsburgh's asking price of a premium draft pick, possibly in the first round, and no serious trade talks have developed despite the Steelers' willingness to deal him."

Schefter and Rapoport continued that, as injuries from around the league are beginning to pile up early, the trade discussions could "pick up quickly."

Although Porter dismissed the idea that the contract drama impacted his desire to be a Steeler long term, a trade seems completely possible with the two sides so far apart in negotiations.
