Steelers WR Ben Skowronek credits Mike McCarthy for simplifying the offense versus the Bengals

Sunday, the Pittsburgh Steelers racked up 30 points and 411 yards of offense against the Cincinnati Bengals. This included three touchdown passes by quarterback Aaron Rodgers, one of which went to wide receiver Ben Skowronek. After the game, Skowronek talked about the game and credited head coach Mike McCarthy for simplifying things this week and allowed the players to make plays.

“I just like the way he let us play," Skowronek said. "We cut down the game plan. We did stuff we’ve been doing since Latrobe, or in spring, even during OTAs. We cut the plan down and we just executed. We have the talent. Just lack of execution the first couple of weeks. That’s behind us. Now, we’re looking forward to Thursday and building on what we did today. But we’ve gotta finish better in the red zone for sure.”

If this is what simplified means, it should be how the Steelers run their offense going forward. For the first time this season, we saw explosive plays and a level of energy that had been absent. The Steelers now have to turn things around quickly and ride the momentum from the win into Cleveland for a Thursday Night showdown with the Browns.
