Tens of thousands of students and teachers protested across France on October 2, demanding better conditions – smaller classes, more teachers, buildings that aren’t falling apart.

Demonstrations hit more than 1,200 high schools, with university students joining in.

The protests began last week in Parisian suburbs with high poverty rates, then spread to Marseille, Strasbourg, Tours and Lille.
