Scientists at Uppsala University in Sweden have found that the Sun contains around 55% more silver than earlier estimates suggested, according to a new study published in the journal Astronomy & Astrophysics.

The research focused on determining the Sun's chemical composition by analyzing the unique spectral signatures left by silver in sunlight. By examining these light patterns, the team was able to produce a more accurate estimate of the element's abundance.

The researchers developed a new method that accounts for more physical factors than previous studies and uses a more realistic model of the Sun's atmosphere. They said the improved approach led to a substantially higher estimate of the amount of silver present in the Sun.

The findings also bring solar measurements into closer agreement with the composition of meteorites that formed from the same cloud of gas and dust as the Sun around 4.6 billion years ago. Scientists have long observed unexpectedly high levels of silver in these meteorites, and the new results may help explain that discrepancy.

The study adds to ongoing efforts to refine scientists' understanding of the Sun's chemical makeup and the processes that shaped the early solar system.
