Suzuki recalls 543 Grand Vitara vehicles in South Africa over fuel alert fault - IOL

Over 500 Suzuki Grand Vitara vehicles have been recalled.

The National Consumer Commission (NCC) has recalled over 500 Suzuki Grand Vitara vehicles due to a fuel alert fault. 

In a statement, the NCC said it was notified by Suzuki Auto South Africa Motors (Pty) Ltd of the fault. 

The recall affects 543 Suzuki Grand Vitara vehicles that were made available for sale through Suzuku dealerships nationwide from May 2025. 

The NCC’s spokesperson, Phetho Ntaba said the manufacturer alerted the Commission that the low fuel warning light may not turn on as the fuel level decreases. 

“The driver may therefore not be alerted that the fuel level is low, which could result in the vehicle running out of fuel, causing the engine to stall and preventing it from starting,” Ntaba said. 

Consumers who own the affected vehicles are urged to take their vehicles to their nearest authorised Suzuki dealership for a fuel gauge inspection. Any corrective work will be performed at no cost.

Previously, the NCC has also recalled over 2,500 Toyota Land Cruiser Prado, Lexus GX, Lexus UX, and Jeep Grand Cherokee (WL) vehicles due to software errors.

A total of 2,279 Toyota Land Cruiser Prado vehicles are being recalled.

“The recall is due to a software error in the combination meter. During meter startup, the 3D graphics microcontroller unit may not fully initialise, resulting in a blank image in the 3D graphics area, which is part of the meter,” Ntaba said.

A total 255 Jeep Grand Cherokee (WL) vehicles were recalled, of which 251 units were sold nationwide from 2023 to 2025. 

Ntaba said four of the vehicles are still with the manufacturer. 

“According to Stellantis South Africa, the Airbag Control Unit module on the affected modules may have been built with software that may cause transient door airbag pressure sensor faults to remain active for the lifetime of the sensor,” Ntaba said.

A total of 41 Lexus GX and Lexus UX were recalled. The vehicles were made available from April 17, 2024, to September 8, 2025, and were sold nationally.  

“According to Lexus, the module of the affected vehicles may have been built with software that may cause transient door airbag pressure sensor faults to remain active for the lifetime of the sensor,” Ntaba said.
