Sydney boy fighting for life after shooting in luxury apartment complex

An 11-year-old boy is fighting for his life after being shot in the face and neck inside a luxury Sydney apartment complex on Monday afternoon.

Paramedics rushed to the Moda apartment complex on Fairway Drive, Norwest, about 5pm following reports the child had been shot. The child was treated at the scene in a critical condition before he was taken to Westmead Children’s Hospital in a serious condition for further treatment.

The boy was conscious and speaking with paramedics when they were administering medical assistance at the complex, where police believe he is a resident.

Police believe the boy was shot inside the home but are unsure what led to the shooting and who pulled the trigger. Detectives do not believe the shooting is linked to organised crime, a police source said, and are treating it as a separate, standalone incident.

Initial police inquiries found most of people in the apartment at the time of the shooting were adults. The circumstances of the shooting and how the gun came to be in the home are also under investigation.

Several police vehicles are on the scene. A police helicopter was dispatched as a large exclusion zone was established on Fairway Drive.

It is adjacent to the Castle Hill Country Club and two blocks from Norwest station.

Residents were seen filtering through the front of the building as tactical police descended on the building, while paramedics moved into the complex.
