Syndicate kingpin Virendra Basoya's son arrested in Rs 13,000 crore drug case

The Delhi Police Special Cell has arrested Rishabh Basoya, son of alleged drug syndicate kingpin Virendra Basoya, in connection with a Rs 13,000-crore drug case. Rishabh, who had been absconding since 2024, returned to India from Dubai on Tuesday after the Delhi High Court permitted him to temporarily suspend the Red Corner Notice against him and surrender before the authorities.

Rishabh arrived from Dubai and surrendered following the court’s order. He was subsequently taken into custody by the Special Cell and produced before a court in Delhi.

The court has remanded him to police custody for seven days, allowing investigators to question him about his alleged role in the drug network and establish his links with other accused in the case.

The development comes against the backdrop of an ongoing investigation into an alleged international drug syndicate involving his father, Virendra Singh Basoya.

Virendra Basoya was recently deported from the United Arab Emirates and arrested in connection with a case registered by the Narcotics Control Bureau’s Mumbai Zonal Unit in 2024.

According to the NCB investigation, Virendra Basoya is accused of being involved in the transportation of large quantities of drugs to foreign countries.

The agency has alleged that a shipment weighing around 1,700 kg was involved in the case. Authorities had intercepted the alleged operation before the consignment could be moved abroad.

Following his deportation, Virendra Basoya was produced before the Patiala House Court, which granted the NCB three days’ transit remand to take him to Pune.

The case was originally registered at Samarth Police Station in Pune and was subsequently taken over and re-registered by the NCB.

A chargesheet has already been filed before the concerned court in Pune, where 16 people have been named as accused, including four who are absconding.

Rishabh’s arrest is expected to provide investigators with an opportunity to examine his alleged links to the syndicate and determine the extent of his involvement in the case.

During the seven-day police custody, the Special Cell is likely to question him about the network, its operations and other individuals allegedly connected with the drug trade.
